To split the point, do not remove the bit from the Chuck after sharpening. To increase relief, insert the Alignment Guide on the Chuck closer to the (+) side of the Alignment Port, then sharpen the bit. Bit is backing out or slipping out of the jaws when you are sharpening. Chuck is too loose or you are using too much pressure when sharpening. Use more torque when tightening the Chuck or less pressure when sharpening. Clean the Chuck with compressed air if the problem persists. Align one of the Sharpening Guides on the Chuck (short white marks) with the Splitting Guide on the Splitting Port. Port, making sure the Alignment Guides insert into the Split Point Guide Rails in the Splitting Port. Reinsert the chucked bit into the Sharpening Port and remove enough of the tip until the split tip looks like the correctly split bit above.
