Pre-ride checks Warning
Failure to carry out these checks before starting may result in damage to the motorcycle and injury to rider. Before starting, check the following points: Fuel level in the tank Check the fuel level in the tank. Engine oil level Check the oil level in the sump through the sight glass. Brake and clutch fluid Check the fluid levels in the respective reservoirs (page 73). Coolant Check coolant level in the expansion reservoir. Tyre condition Check the pressure and condition of the tyres (page 86). Controls Operate the brake, clutch, throttle and gear change controls (levers, pedals and twistgrip) to check that they function correctly. Lights and indicators Make sure the lights, indicators and horn work properly. Replace any burnt-out bulbs (page 80).
Key locks Check that the fuel filler cap (page 52) and the seat are locked (page 53). Sidestand Make sure the sidestand operates smoothly and is in the correct position (page 54).

If there are any faults or malfunctions, do not start the motorcycle and contact your DUCATI Dealer or Authorized Service Centre.

Starting the engine Warning
Before starting the engine, familiarise yourself with the controls that you will use when riding (page 10).

Warning
Never start or run the engine in enclosed space. Exhaust gases are toxic and may lead to loss of consciousness or even death within a short time. Check that both the green light N and the red light on the instrument panel come on.

Important
The oil pressure warning light should go out a few seconds after the engine has started (page 11).
Notes
The engine can be started with the sidestand down and the gearbox in neutral. If starting with a gear engaged, pull in the clutch lever (in this case the sidestand must be up).
Warning
The sidestand should be in rest position (horizontal), otherwise the safety sensor prevents the engine starting.

Do not rev the engine when cold. Allow some time for the oil to warm up and reach all points that need lubricating.

Moving off
1) Disengage the clutch by squeezing the clutch lever. 2) Push down the gearchange lever firmly with the tip of your foot to engage first gear. 3) Raise the engine revs by turning the throttle twistgrip while gradually releasing the clutch lever.
