The Ewbank 123 can be recharged with the handheld unit in or out of the base unit. The on/off switch should be in the `off' position while charging the unit. It is very important to always fully charge the battery after every use so that it will be ready and fully charged for your next cleaning. The upper position turns the unit off, the central position vacuums only hard surfaces and the lowest position activates the powerbrush heads for carpet cleaning. Remove the charger plug from the vacuum cleaner. To extend the handle twist at the top and pull out to a suitable length, then turn the handle until it is locked in position. (fig 1) · · Cleaning the filter and the dust compartment · · · · · · Always switch off before opening the dust compartment. Press the release button and detach the dust compartment (fig 2). Remove the filter from the dust compartment and empty the contents (figs 3). A damp cloth can be used to clean the inside of the dust compartment. The filter can be washed in warm soapy water. The motor is not fixed with a screw and must be replaced in the correct position during reassembly. Operation To install large powerbrush, simply insert the pipe into the inlet socket at the bottom of the base unit making sure the button `clicks' into the retaining hole.
