Insert a fresh battery with +-terminal pointing outwards. We recommend that only a fresh battery of the same type is used to replace the old battery. 0· Only remove the battery from the camera when you wish to replace it. [. . . ] If the integrated flash unit is fully charged, the liquid crystal display shows "Flash ready" and pressing the button down further will release the shutter. If the integrated flash is still charging (not yet fully charged), then the liquid crystal display shows a flashing flash symbol. When the shutter release button is pressed in this charge condition, the "Flash ready" liquid crystal display flashes. 9) If flash is required for a photograph, the shutter release button cannot be pressed down any further until the flash is fully charged. The liquid crystal display will only show "Flash ready" when the shutter release button is pressed. On switching on the power, the operating mode is always set to automatic flash. This operating mode changes each time the "Mode" button is pressed. The sequence of operating modes and their description is as follows: AUTO AUTO Automatic flash Automatic flash with red-eye reduction Fill-in flash Flash off Night exposure Burst "Infinite" setting AUTOMATIC FLASH In this mode the camera determines whether to use flash or not. If the automatic exposure control light sensor detects sufficient light then the integrated flash unit is not activated when the shutter is released. If the sensor does not detect sufficient light then additional light is required for a good quality photograph. In this event, the integrated flash unit is automatically activated when the shutter is released. 10) If this mode is selected then the red-eye effect can be minimised when taking portraits using flash. Press the shutter release button half down so that the liquid crystal display shows "Flash charging". FILL-IN FLASH In this operating mode, the flash is activated if the user wishes to photograph subjects with sunlight coming from the side or from the rear. This mode allows natural-looking photographs to be taken by softening the reproduction of harsh shadows. FLASH OFF This operating mode prevents the flash from operating and thus allows photographs to be taken using available light in places where the use of flash photography is prohibited. Press the shutter release button and the flash is not fired when the shutter is released. 0· In the flash off mode, the camera uses a long shutter speed (of up to 1/3 second) to make use of the available light. If you wish to avoid any blurring of the picture, we recommend the use of a tripod. This ensures a depth of focus over a large focusing range. For dark exposure conditions, such in the evening or at night, the shutter opening time should be increased and a tripod used to reduce camera shake. NIGHT EXPOSURE PORTRAIT MODE If a photograph is to be taken of a subject in the dark, a long exposure can be used. [. . . ] If the lens is dusty, carefully remove the dust with a lens brush; if necessary use a little lens cleaner on lens cleaning paper to carefully wash the lens. Do not touch the lens with your fingers. Do not clean the lens with alcohol or solvents. If the camera is dirty, wipe the dirt away carefully using a soft clean cloth. [. . . ]
