Recommendations For Smoke And Heat Detectors With regard to the number and placement of smoke/heat detectors, we subscribe to the recommendations contained in the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Standard #72 noted below. Early warning fire detection is best achieved by the installation of fire detection equipment in all rooms and areas of the household as follows: For minimum protection a smoke detector should be installed outside of each separate sleeping area, and on each additional floor of a multi-floor family living unit, including basements. The installation of smoke detectors in kitchens, attics (finished or unfinished), or in garages is not normally recommended. If you want to program alpha descriptors now, enter "1" (YES). See the ALPHA DESCRIPTOR PROGRAMMING section for more information. This will return you to the ENTER ZN NUM. When all zones have been programmed, enter 00 to quit. If you plan to enroll serial numbers in the sequential mode, enter 00 to quit, then go to the SEQUENTIAL MODE section later in this manual to enroll the serial numbers. When you have finished programming all zones (including all serial numbers), test each zone using the system's TEST mode. Do not use the Transmitter ID Sniffer mode for this, as it will only check for transmission of one zone on a particular transmitter, and NOT the zones assigned to each additional loop.
