Sample Editing 16 24 X I SOLO & MUTE A. [. . . ] By "chaining" sequences together, you can create a new song, which may then be copied into an unused sequence. Song steps must be numbered consecutively, starting at 1. The Right arrow lets you move to the SEQ: field. enter the sequence number for that song step. Here you can Pressing the Right arrow again moves the cursor to the BARS: field. The BARS: field lets you enter the number of bars you want to use from the specified sequence, starting at bar 1. The number you enter is the number of the last bar that will be used. If the number of bars entered is greater than the number of bars in the sequence, the sequence will repeat to play the required number of bars. Using the arrow keys, you can create each step, and select the sequence and number of bars needed from the beginning of that sequence for each song step. Entering a zero in the Song Step field ends the Create Song process and asks for the number of the sequence which you want to contain your completed song. Copy To Which Sequence: Enter the number of the sequence into which you wish to place the song. If the sequence you specify is one which you are using in the song, the display will return to the Select Sequence mode after letting you know that you cannot use that sequence. Cannot Copy To An Existing Seq Select another sequence and try again. Pag* 15 If you hit the Play button during the Create Song process, you will hear the song as it currently exists; it will play from the currently selected song step. Note that the song will not be recorded into its own sequence until you exit the Create Song mode by entering a zero in the Song Step field. This means you can create a part of your song, return to the Select Sequence menu to work on another sequence, then return to the Create Song menu later to add the new sequence. Once a song is transferred into a sequence, it may still be added to using Insert/Copy or by incorporating the sequence into a newly created song. Note that the song list takes up far less memory than actually copying all of the desired sequences into a new sequence, but a "create song" list cannot be saved to disk. To insert a song step (sequence) before the displayed step, press the Insert/Copy button during the Create Song process. The current step and all higher-numbered steps are shifted up one place and a blank step is inserted (SEQ:0 BARS:0) to allow you to enter the sequence you wish to add. To delete the displayed step, press the Delete Bars button during the Create Song process. The current step is deleted and all the following steps are shifted down one place. A song list may contain up to 200 steps. [. . . ] All incoming MIDI data, regardless of channel, is recorded on the current track, which is then played back on any one of the 16 channels. Preset -- The setting that creates a specific voice on a digital synthesizer, such as a bass voice or a saxophone voice. Real-time -- A control that affects the operation of the 9000 instantaneously, especially during record or playback. Linn Repeat -- Repeat is a means of causing a note to continue sounding at a specified rate when the note is pressed. The effect is that of pressing the note over and over again at the desired rate. Sequence -- A series of musical notes and rests, in the form of MIDI data, from one to 999 bars long. A song is a sequence that can be made up of smaller sequences. Shuffle -- A method, used by the Linn 9000, of shifting timingcorrected notes off beat by a specified amount to give the impression of a live performer.
