Understanding Dictionary Entries Each dictionary entry contains a wealth of information. The headword, or main word, is in boldface, followed by its phonetic spelling in slashes (/ /). When a headword has more than one dictionary entry, its entry number is in superscript. Grammatical information is presented in angle brackets (< >). Phrases using the headword are boldfaced. At any line in a dictionary entry, you can press ?* to see a highlighted headword on the Entries menu. 10 Hearing English Words This digital book can pronounce aloud English words, phrases, and sentences when it's installed in a Digital Book System with a speaker or earphone jack. Please note, however, that only English words appearing in this dictionary can be pronounced. Press ENTER to view its dictionary entry. 5.
