Select the type of zoom available for p MOVIE ZOOM TYPE in the setup menu. Selecting 2 OPTICAL blocks sound being recorded when zooming. 42 Recording Movies R Before recording, select a frame size using the O QUALITY option in the shooting menu. Select h 1280 (1280 × 720) for an aspect ratio of 16 : 9 (High Definition), f (640 × 480) to record standard definition movies, or g (320 × 240) for longer movies. R Focus, exposure, and white balance are adjusted automatically throughout recording. The color and brightness of the image may vary from that displayed before recording begins. R Sounds made by the camera may be recorded. Q The indicator lamp lights while movies are being recorded. Do not open the battery chamber during shooting or while the indicator lamp is lit. Failure to observe this precaution could prevent the movie from being played back. Q Vertical or horizontal streaks may appear in movies containing very bright subjects. This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction. Q The temperature of the camera may rise if it is used to record movies for an extended period or if the ambient temperature is high. This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction. Movies 43 Viewing Movies During playback, movies are displayed in the LCD monitor as shown at right. The following operations can be performed while a movie is displayed: Description Press the selector down to start playback. If playback is not in progress, pressing the selector up will delete the movie. Press the selector right to advance, left to rewind. If playback Advance/ is paused, the movie will advance or rewind one frame rewind each time the selector is pressed. Press MENU/OK to pause playback and display volume controls. Press the selector up or down to adjust the volume Adjust volume and press MENU/OK to exit. Volume can also be adjusted from the setup menu.
