Put some commercially available stainless steel polish on a cloth and polish the whole cooktop after cleaning to get an even stainless steel surface. Never allow food stains or salt to remain on stainless steel for any length of time. Important: certain stainless steel cleaners will scratch the surface. Chlorine or chlorine compounds in some cleaners are corrosive to stainless steel. Cloth should not be too wet, as moisture could penetrate behind the control knob. You can remove this discoloration as follows: Mix equal parts of white vinegar with a max. 8 % acid (household vinegar) and warm water. Soak the discolored burner parts for no longer than 10 minutes in the solution and remove stubborn stains with a cloth or sponge.
