[. . . ] While you are navigating a route, the bearing pointer indicates the direction (a bent arrow) of the turn to the next point in the route as well as the direction to the current point. For example, if the arrow is pointing straight up, you are going directly to your destination. If it points any direction other than up, turn and move towards the direction the arrow is pointing until it points up, and then continue in that direction. If you are using the course pointer option instead and you drift away from the original line of travel to your destination, the course deviation indicator (CDI) provides graphic indication of drift (right or left) and shows the distance off course.

BaSIc operatIon
When you are not on an active Go To, track, or route (in other words, not traveling to a recorded destination), the compass ring shows your heading while you are moving, but the data fields at the top of the page do not show any destination related data, such as estimated time of arrival.
Compass Page Options
CDI scale
Compass page with course pointer and course deviation indicator (CDI) scale active.
1. Open the option menu of the Compass, Highway, or Map page. Select Stop Navigation.
To stop navigating:
· Sight`NGo--use the Sight `N Go feature to locate a landmark visually and then lock in a magnetic heading to it. (Rino 530HCx feature only. ) · StopNavigation/ResumeNavigation--cancels/ resumes navigation. · Recalculate--recalculates the active route. · BearingPointer/CoursePointer--toggle between bearing (always directed toward your destination) and course (shows amount of correction needed to get back on course. ) · ShowDataFields--toggle to show data fields on the display or removing the data fields. · CalibrateCompass--calibrates the electronic compass. (Rino 530HCx feature only. ) · RestoreDefaults--return options and data field choices to factory designations.

Using Sight `N Go
Available for the Rino 530HCx only, use this feature to visually locate an object and navigate to it.
1. Use the Page/Quit key to access the Compass page and then use the Rocker to access the option menu. Use the Rocker to select Sight `N Go and press in. The compass ring with pointer is in-line with the two sighting marks on the case. Hold the Rino 530HCx at eye level and line up the two sighting marks on the case with a distant object. Select Set Course to open the Compass page. Select Project Waypoint to open the Project Waypoint page. Enter an estimated distance and then select GoTo to navigate to the point using the Map page.

6. Follow routing directions on the Map page or use the compass for bearing or course navigation.

To use Sight `N Go to navigate:

To view your destination as a waypoint, select Project Waypoint and press Enter. To re-sight the destination, press Enter when Re-Sight is selected.
Calibrating the Compass
When you first use the Rino 530HCx, the electronic compass must be calibrated outdoors and away from metal objects. The accuracy of the electronic compass is adversely affected if the unit is held near items that generate magnetic fields. Recalibrate after significant events such as location or temperature changes.
