Create a personal area network (PAN) to chat, play games, etc.
Note: Use of dial-up and wireless Internet, e-mail, corporate networks, and other wireless communications, such as Bluetooth-enabled devices, may require separately purchased additional hardware and other compatible equipment, in addition to a standard Wireless LAN (WLAN) infrastructure and a separately purchased service contract. Check with your service provider for availability and coverage in your area. Some Web content may require installation of additional software.

The following Bluetooth terms are used throughout this chapter.

Authentication Authorization Bonding (Paired devices)
Means. . .
Verification of a numeric passkey before a connection or activity can be completed. Approval of a connection or activity before it can be completed. Create a trusted connection between your device and another. After a bond is created, the two devices become paired. A paired device does not require authentication or authorization. Unique electronic address of a Bluetooth device. Location and recognition of another Bluetooth device. Name that a Bluetooth device provides when discovered by another device. Code you enter to authenticate connections or activities requested by other devices. Collection of programs used to manage daily business tasks (for example: Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks). Determination of which programs you have in common with other devices.

Supported Services
The functions that Bluetooth supports are called services. You can communicate only with Bluetooth devices that support at least one of the following services:

Opening Bluetooth Settings
1. From the Today screen, tap the Bluetooth icon. From the pop-up menu, tap Bluetooth Settings.
Turning On Bluetooth
To turn on Bluetooth from Bluetooth Settings: 1. From the Today screen, tap the Bluetooth icon. From the pop-up menu, tap Bluetooth Settings. Shortcut: From the Bluetooth pop-up menu, tap Turn Bluetooth ON. When Bluetooth is turned on, the Bluetooth icon turns blue and the wireless indicator LED, located to the left of the power button, blinks blue or alternates between blinking blue and blinking green if the Wireless LAN is also turned on.

Tap the Turn off button to disable. When Bluetooth is turned off, the Bluetooth icon is grayed with a red X, and no incoming or outgoing connections are possible.
