[. . . ] You can change the maximum log size by selecting a value using the up and down arrows or typing a value directly in the field provided. Note: Any change in maximum log size becomes effective only after you clear the log. The Management Appliance generates the following Event Log events as the two logs approach the maximum size. -- 880A02BD - Warning - Event Log is 80% full -- 880A02BF - Warning - Audit Log is 80% full The Management Appliance generates the following Application log events when the logs reach maximum size. -- 880A02BE - Critical - Event Log is full -- 880A02C0 - Critical - Audit Log is full Select one of the following options to specify how the system handles new entries when the log reaches the maximum size. --The system overwrites existing log entries and no new entries are lost. 64 Storage Management Appliance Software V2. 0 User Guide Monitoring Events -- Overwrite events older than . --Use the up and down arrows to specify a number of days or type a value directly in the field. Should there be no entries older than this value when the log reaches maximum size, new entries are lost. --Should the log reach maximum size, all new entries are lost. Select what events the system displays on the Event Log or Audit Log page from the following options. -- Acknowledged and Unacknowledged -- Acknowledged only -- Unacknowledged only Clear Log--Deletes all entries from the active log after you respond positively to a request for confirmation. To save existing log entries for future reference you must download the current log. Acknowledge--Changes the status of selected log entries to acknowledged after you respond positively to a request for confirmation. While users with Administrator privileges can use all log features, users assigned the Operator privilege level can only view and download the Event Log. See Appendix C, "Menu Structure and Access by Privilege Level, " on page 115 for detailed information about privilege levels required to access log features. Storage Management Appliance Software V2. 0 User Guide 65 Monitoring Events Using Backup and Restore Logs The Backup and Restore logs contain a list of log files for backup and restore operations completed with the Management Appliance features. Each log file contains detailed information about one backup or restore operation. The two logs offer similar management features. Display the basic log page by clicking Backup Log or Restore Log on the Logs page (Figure 43). The Backup Log is shown in Figure 47. Figure 47: Backup Log page Both the Backup Log and Restore Log have the following Tasks buttons. View Log--Displays the content of a selected log file on a separate page. Download Log--Downloads a selected log file to your computer. While users with Administrator privileges can use all log features, users assigned the Operator privilege level can only view and download the Backup and Recovery logs. About Notification Types You can use Storage Management Appliance notification features to send event information such as SNMP traps to a host or have the information sent to a number of users in an e-mail message or an e-mail pager alert. By default, the system logs events and does not send notifications. 66 Storage Management Appliance Software V2. 0 User Guide Monitoring Events SNMP Trap Forwarding For a supported device or discovered application you can select an event type and have the Management Appliance forward basic information about each event of that type to another host. The Management Appliance formats the information as an SNMP trap message and the destination host is called an SNMP trap recipient. [. . . ] The Management Appliance can generate SNMP traps that can be decoded by other devices using the Management Appliance MIB module. See "Setting Up Notifications, " on page 71 for more information. SNMP trap forwarding A type of Storage Management Appliance notification that relays the SNMP trap message received from a SAN component to any number of hosts.
