About simulation mode You can perform any replication manager function in simulation mode that you can perform in a production environment with the following limitations: · Only the Windows host agent is simulated. Other host platforms are not available for simulation. · Each simulated host volume can contain one virtual disk only. In a production environment, a host volume can be comprised of multiple virtual disks. [. . . ] · To use the replication manager in simulation mode on a production machine, you must purge your storage resources and perform database cleanup (as described in "Purging resources" on page 8) and add simulated resources. When you exit simulation mode, make sure that you purge any existing data (see "Purging resources" on page 8). If data remains and you attempt to enter simulation mode at a later time, you will not be successful. The replication manager is not designed to enter simulation mode if there is data in the database. Simulating resources Configure simulation mode by adding storage, host, and optional Oracle resources to the simulated system by executing the following procedure: 4 1. From the replication manager main window, enable simulation mode by selecting Tools > Simulation Mode and then selecting the simulation mode check box. The content (right) pane heading displays *** SIMULATION MODE ***. The list tab shows the currently configured simulated storage systems. NOTE: The Simulation Mode check box indicates whether simulation mode is currently enabled and also acts as a toggle that switches to and from simulation mode. If simulation mode is not available, a tooltip on the menu item shows the reason for its unavailability. To simulate storage resources, select Tools > Simulation Mode > Configure Simulated Storage Resources from the simulated replication manager main window. The Configure Simulated Storage Resources window opens (see Figure 1). Figure 1 Configure simulated storage resources window 3. Enter the storage system parameters in the right pane and then click Add. You can configure the properties in the right pane before adding simulated storage systems, which simulates adding a storage system to a virtual SAN that will be discovered by the replication manager. Select the simulated storage systems in the navigation pane and then click Delete to remove them from the virtual SAN. Deleting a simulated storage system causes the system to have a state of unknown in the replication manager. You can then remove the system from the replication manager using the normal database cleanup method. Click the X icon in the upper right corner to close the Configure Simulated Storage Resources window. To simulate host resources, select Tools > Simulation Mode > Configure Simulated Host Resources. Enter the new host parameters in the right pane and then click Add to configure simulated hosts. The list under Configured Hosts shows the currently configured simulated enabled hosts. You can zone an enabled host to a simulated storage system. [. . . ] You are selecting the host where the simulated Oracle database will reside.
