MORF User Manual SmartWireTM Specific Features · 48 Colour Management Colour Management System To ensure perfect results when printing to colour devices, a colour management system (CMS) is required. Morf's implementation of Agfa's CMS gives you such a tool. Combined with the versatility of Morf's Scanner Installation Wizard and ICC Profile Creation Wizard, calibrating your devices couldn't be easier. What is ICC? ICC stands for "International Colour Consortium". The International Colour Consortium was established in 1993 by eight industry vendors for the purpose of creating, promoting and encouraging the standardization and evolution of an open, vendor-neutral, cross-platform colour management system architecture and components. Their web site can be found at http://www. color. org, should you be interested in more information about this committee. Getting Started ­ The basics Basically we have to distinguish between 3 types of ICC Profiles: Input Profiles, used for i. e. scanners and digital cameras, Monitor Profiles which are used to calibrate your monitor, and Output Profiles which are used to correct-correct your output device. The type is specified inside the actual profile itself so you cannot accidentally choose a wrong profile type for any device, i. e. select a monitor profile for your scanner. The MORF's ICC Profile Wizard will allow you to create only Input and Output Profiles. If you want to create a Monitor Profile to correct-correct your monitor you have to use 3rd party software. Note that - despite NT as an operating system not having built-in colour management you can use a Monitor Profile to correct the MORF Preview. (See Monitor Profile Selection below. ) Things you may want to learn more about On your MORF CD you find a complete introduction about Colour Management in general. This educational course is located in the AGFACMS folder. It is highly recommended for all users to at least briefly browse through this educational program. Before you start Before attempting to calibrate any device, all hardware used must be in good working order, for example, a scanner you may be using, cannot have dirty glass or dusty optics. This would obviously result in an incorrect profile for the scanner and the output device you may be creating a profile for, should this be your preferred method. MORF User Manual Colour Management · 49 Wear in key components of your output device, e. g. a blocked cartridge on an inkjet device or a worn drum on a laser device will also affect results. Please ensure that all equipment is serviced correctly before attempting to use the colour management system. Things to avoid. Any ICC or ICM files that are currently being used in an application or associated with a printer should be disabled or removed. This is important when creating a profile for either a scanner or a printer, as the devices should be free of any other colour correction processes. Once a new profile has been created using Morfs' ICC Profile Creation Wizard, no other profiles will be needed. Spectrophotometers supported At the time of writing of this manual the MORF's ICC Profile Wizard directly supported the XRite DTP41 Spectrophotometer, although it can be used with literally all other such devices that allow you to read an ICC Target and create a measurements file. This measurements file can be read into the MORF's ICC Profile Wizard. Morfs' ICM profile creation wizard. Many manufacturers of scanning and printing equipment supply profiles for their devices, which give fairly accurate results, but do not allow for variations in set-up and day-to-day colour drifting. Morfs' ICC Profile Creation wizard allows the user to simply, and effectively, create a custom profile based on the actual performance of each individual device - at that moment in time!This also means your colour can be adjusted to suit any speciality media.
