The printer scans the document and sends the fax to the number you entered. 77 Faxing a document using the software You can scan a document to the computer and then fax it to someone using the software. 1 Make sure the printer is connected to a computer, and both the printer and the computer are on. 2 Load an original document into the ADF or on the scanner glass. Place these items on the scanner glass. 3 From the desktop, double-click the Productivity Suite icon. 5 Click Fax a document in the All-in-One. 6 Follow the instructions on the computer screen to complete the task. Faxing a document using an application You can create a soft-copy document on the computer, and then send a black-and-white fax of it to someone else. Note: You cannot receive soft-copy faxes, only send them. All incoming faxes will print from the printer. To send a fax from a computer program using the fax modem in the printer: 1 With a document open, click File Print. 2 From the Printer list, select the fax driver for your printer. 4 To send a soft-copy fax, follow the instructions in the program that launches. Note: All faxes sent using the soft-copy fax feature appear in Fine resolution. Receiving a fax Receiving a fax automatically 1 Press Fax Auto Answer. 2 If you would like to set a specific number of rings after which the printer will automatically receive faxes, see "Setting the number of rings before receiving a fax automatically" on page 79. 78 Receiving a fax with an answering machine To receive a fax with an answering machine connected to the printer, set the answering machine to answer incoming calls before the printer does. For example, if you set the answering machine to answer calls after three rings, set the printer to answer calls after five rings. 1 From the control panel, press Fax Mode. 8 Make sure the Fax Auto Answer light is on. When a ring is detected, the answering machine picks up the call. or or repeatedly until Pick-Up On: is highlighted. or repeatedly until Ringing and Answering is highlighted. · If the printer detects a fax, it receives the fax and disconnects the answering machine. · If the printer does not detect a fax, the answering machine receives the call. Note: You must set up the equipment as shown in "Connecting to an answering machine" on page 17. Receiving a fax manually 1 Make sure the Fax Auto Answer light is off. [. . . ] This equipment may not provide for the effective hand-over of a call to another device connected to the same line. This equipment should not be used under any circumstances that may constitute a nuisance to other Telecom customers. Some parameters required for compliance with Telecom's telepermit requirements are dependent on the equipment associated with this device. The associated equipment shall be set to operate within the following limits for compliance to Telecom's specifications: · There shall be no more than 10 call attempts to the same number within any 30 minute period for any single manual call initiation, and · The equipment shall go on-hook for a period of not less than 30 seconds between the end of one attempt and the beginning of the next call attempt. · The equipment shall be set to ensure that automatic calls to different numbers are spaced such that there is not less than 5 seconds between the end of one call attempt and the beginning of another.
