[. . . ] The higher the number, the tighter the tension. PRESSER FOOT LEVER There are three positions for your presser foot. Raise the lever to the middle position to insert or remove fabric. Lift it to its highest position to change the presser foot or to remove thick fabric. [. . . ] Pull both threads under the presser foot toward the back of the machine. Place the fabric under the presser foot and lower the presser foot lever. Turn the hand wheel toward you until the needle enters the fabric. When you reach the end of the fabric, stop the machine by releasing the foot control. Turn the hand wheel to raise the needle. Raise the presser foot by pushing the lever up. Use the thread cutter above the presser foot to cut off excess threads. Pull both threads under and to the back of the presser foot, leaving 4 inches (10 cm) clear. For this reason it is highly recommended for overcasting all types of fabrics. It is also ideal for mending tears, patching, sewing towelling, patch-work and attaching flat elastic. At 0 stitch length the Multi-stitch Zigzag makes an excellent bartack. 29 RAMPART STITCH This stitch is ideal for producing flat overlapped seams on almost any type of fabric and a bolder effect will result from sewing with contrasting thread.
