[. . . ] For information about how to change the terminator power option on your drive, refer to the appropriate drive-specific section. I/O circuits and data path widths "W, " "WC, " "LW, " and "LC" models have a "wide" (16-bit) SCSI data bus rather than the standard (non-wide) 8-bit SCSI data bus; however, you can use these wide drives on a standard (nonwide) 8-bit data bus using a terminated 68-pin to 50-pin SCSI cable (not applicable to "WC" or "LC" drives which are not to be connected into the system via cable). 26 Medalist Pro Installation Guide, Rev. B Figures 3a, 3b, 3c, and 3d show typical drive connections. The following table lists the maximum cable lengths and number of devices with single-ended I/O circuits allowed on a daisy-chain cable for <10 and <20 M transfers/sec I/O data transfer rates. Interconnect characteristics for single-ended I/O circuits Maximum distance between terminators (meters) [1] [3] Fast-5 Fast-10 Fast-20 Fast-40 Number of attached SCSI devices 1 to 4 maximum capacitance (25pF) SCSI devices 5 to 8 maximum capacitance (25pF) SCSI devices 6 6 3 3 3 3 1. 5 [2] N/A N/A N/A 9 to 16 maximum capacitance 6 (25pF) SCSI devices [1] For environments where all elements of the bus (cables, device interfaces, environmental noise and other parameters) are controlled to be better than minimally required, it may be possible to extend the path length and device count. [2] Extending the device count beyond eight requires specification control beyond the minimum specified in the ANSI T10/1302D document. It is recommended that the devices be uniformly spaced between terminators with the end devices located as close as possible to the terminators. [3] Values specified by data rate shall apply even if a slower data rate is negotiated. Medalist Pro Installation Guide, Rev. B Table 5a. 27 Interconnect characteristics for LVD I/O circuits Maximum distance between terminators (meters) [1] [3] [5] Interconnect Fast-5 Fast-10 Fast-20 Fast-40 Point-to-point interconnect (2 devices) Daisy-chain interconnect (up to 16 devices) [4] 25 15 25 15 25 15 25 [2] 12 [1] For environments where all elements of the bus (cables, device interfaces, environmental noise and other parameters) are controlled to be better than minimally required, it may be possible to extend the path length and device count. [2] SCSI devices shall be within a stub length of the termination (. 1 meter). [3] Values specified by data rate shall apply even if a slower data rate is negotiated. [4] Loads spaced at least 8 inches (20. 3 cm) apart (refer to SCSI EPI T10/1143D specification). [5] See ANSI T10/1302D specification for details. 28 Medalist Pro Installation Guide, Rev.
