[. . . ] Thank you for purchasing the Nikon MB-E5000 battery pack for use with Nikon COOLPIX5000 digital cameras. The MB-E5000 takes six LR-6 (AA) batteries and includes alternate shutter release and zoom buttons. To ensure proper operation, read this manual thoroughly before using this product. [. . . ] Leaving the battery-chamber cover of the camera open and lining it up with the battery-chamber cover receptacle in the battery pack, insert the battery pack as shown in Figure 2-c. To remove the battery pack, reverse the above steps. Whenever you attach or remove the battery pack, be sure that the camera is off and that the shutter-release button locking ring on the battery pack is in the L position. Before inserting batteries, be sure that the camera is off and that the shutter-release button locking ring on the battery pack is in the L position. Slide the battery-chamber cover latch on the base of the battery pack to the cover (Figure 2-e). Be sure the end of the battery removal ribbon protrudes from under the batteries as also shown in Figure 2-f. Replace the battery-chamber cover and slide the battery-chamber cover latch to the position (Figure 2-g). Turn the camera on and check the battery level in the control panel on the rear of the camera. If you will not be using the battery pack for long periods, remove the battery to prevent leakage. The battery pack is equipped with shutter-release and zoom buttons for taking portrait-orientation photographs. The shutter-release button on the battery pack is equipped with a locking mechanism. To use the battery pack shutter-release button, rotate the locking ring to the · (on) position. The shutter-release button locking ring on the battery pack cannot be used for turning the camera on and off. To turn the camera on and off, use the camera's power switch.
