961 Operations and Reference Manual Rev. Press the CURSOR PAD up or down to select the first waypoint, then press the INSERT key. You can also use the search function to find the first waypoint. The 961 adds the first waypoint to the route. For each waypoint you want to add, repeat step #3. The 961 adds each waypoint to the route, displaying the graphical representation on the left side of the screen, and the numerical listing on the right side. When adding waypoints, you can press the MOVE UP key and the MOVE DOWN key to select an insertion point in the route; pressing and holding either of these keys lets the key "auto-repeat, " which moves you up and down the list more quickly than single keypresses. You can also press the DELETE key to remove the selected waypoint. When you've finished adding waypoints, press the DONE key to return to the ROUTES screen. To change this route, see "Editing a route at the routes screen" starting on page 8-17. NOTE:
You may want to make your dock the first waypoint of a route. This ensures that, when you reverse the route, the 961 can help guide you the entire way home--not to a last waypoint still out on the water.
Copying a route
If a new route will be similar to an existing one, you can copy the existing route, then change its characteristics to create a new route. You can copy the existing route's waypoints (in a normal or reverse direction), enter a new name for the new route, then, if desired, edit the route. At the ROUTES screen, press the CURSOR PAD up or down to highlight the desired route to copy, then press the COPY key. To copy the route in its existing direction, press the FORWARDS key; to copy the route in a reverse direction, press the REVERSE key.

Saving the trip as a route
If, at any time, you decide to save the sequence of waypoints in the trip, you can save and store your entire current trip as a route. Before saving the trip, however, you may want to erase unwanted waypoints from it; see "Erasing the trip" starting on page 11-12. At the TRIP screen, press the SAVE TRIP AS ROUTE key. The SAVE THE TRIP AS A ROUTE dialog box appears.
Save trip as route dialog box 2. If desired, use the KEYPAD to change the default route name in the NAME field.
