[. . . ] The following information can typically be displayed: Input source & volume*1 Signal format*2 or sampling frequency Input source & listening mode *1 When AM or FM radio is used, the band, preset number, and frequency are displayed. *2 If the input signal is analog, or AM or FM radio is selected, no format information is displayed. If the input signal is PCM, the sampling frequency is displayed. If the input signal is digital but not PCM, the signal format is displayed. Information is displayed for about 3 seconds, then the previous display reappears. Interpreting Surround Channel Information A BC A: The number of front channels (front left, front right, and center). B: The number of surround channels (surround left and surround right). If there's surround back channel information, this number will be 3. C: LFE channel for subwoofer (1 means yes). 49 Common Functions--Continued Specifying the Digital Signal Format The following table shows the display indicator for each digital signal format. Format Dolby Digital DTS PCM PCM Display Normally, the AV receiver detects the format of digital input signals automatically. However, if you experience either of the following issues when playing PCM or DTS sources, you can specify the signal format manually. · If the beginnings of tracks from a PCM source are cut off, try the PCM setting. · If noise is produced when fast forwarding or rewinding a DTS CD, try the DTS setting. PCM: Only 2-channel PCM format input signals will be heard. If the input signal is not PCM, the PCM indicator will flash and there will be no sound. DTS: Only DTS (but not DTS-HD) format input signals will be heard. If the input signal is not DTS, the DTS indicator will flash and there will be no sound. Auto (default): The format is detected automatically. If no digital input signal is present, the corresponding analog input is used instead. 50 Listening to the Radio AM Frequency Step Setup (on some models) 3 Use the Up and Down [ ]/[ ] buttons to select "AM Freq. " 1 2, 3 1, 5 2­4 4 Use the Left and Right [ ]/[ ] buttons to select: 10kHz: Select if 10kHz steps are used in your area. 9kHz: Select if 9kHz steps are used in your area. 5 Press the [SETUP] button. For AM tuning to work properly, you must specify the AM frequency step used in your area.
