Press input selector button to select one of the following input sources: · · · · · · DVD VIDEO 1 VIDEO 2 VIDEO 3 TAPE CD Volume level About digital sound If the equipment is digitally connected to the AV Receiver, the sound from the digital input will automatically be selected and reproduced instead of the analog sound as explained below. The initial settings are as follows: · When the DVD source is selected, the digital sound from the DIGITAL INPUT COAXIAL connector is reproduced. · When the CD source is selected, the digital sound from the DIGITAL INPUT OPTICAL 2 connector is reproduced. · When the TAPE source is selected, the digital sound from the DIGITAL INPUT OPTICAL 1 connector is reproduced. When the digital sound is reproduced, the YDIGITAL, DTS, or PCM (2 channel digital stereo) indicator lights up according to the received sound system in the AV Receiver's display. YDIGITAL PCM DTS e. g. When VIDEO 3 is selected. Various functions while playing the connected source When MD recorder is connected to the TAPE jacks, you can switch the source from TAPE to MD (see page 23). To use the following functions, see pages 26 and 27. · Turning on/off the SPEAKERS A/SPEAKERS B systems · Muting the sound · Listening through headphones · Changing the display · Controlling the brightness of the lghts on the AV Receiver · Using the sleep timer 2. Ensure that the indicator(s) for the speaker system(s) to be used are lit on the display. If no SPEAKERS indicator is lit, press SPEAKERS A/B on the unit or SP A/SP B on the remote controller to select the speaker system(s) to be used. 3. Press VOLUME 5/ on the remote controller or turn MASTER VOLUME dial on the unit to adjust the volume. Enjoying the surround modes while playing the connected source See page 30. 21 Playing the connected source DIGITAL INPUT DVD DVD Setting the digital inputs When connecting digital source components to the DIGITAL INPUT jacks on the rear panel, assign the input source button on the front panel to either a DIGITAL INPUT OPTICAL or COAXIAL jack depending on the type of connector on the digital source components. The DVD, CD, VIDEO 1, VIDEO 2, VIDEO 3 and TAPE inputs can be assigned to the DIGITAL INPUT jacks. With the initial setting, the OPTICAL 2 connector is assigned to the CD input, COAXIAL is assigned to the DVD input and OPTICAL 1 is assigned to the TAPE input, and no input connector is assigned to the VIDEO 1-3 inputs. For example, follow the steps below to assign OPTICAL 1 to the DVD device connected to the DIGITAL INPUT OPTICAL 1 jack. 1. Press DVD. The DVD input is selected and "DVD" appears in the display. 2. Press DIGITAL INPUT. The current DVD setting (COAX) appears. Default setting Input source CD TUNER TAPE VIDEO 3 VIDEO 2 VIDEO 1 DVD Digital input OPTICAL 2 OPTICAL 1 ­­­­ ­­­­ ­­­­ COAXIAL 3. Press DIGITAL INPUT repeatedly to select "OPT 1". Pressing DIGITAL INPUT repeatedly will change the setting as follows: Select if connected to DIGITAL INPUT COAXIAL. Select if connected to DIGITAL INPUT OPTICAL 1. Select if connected to DIGITAL INPUT OPTICAL 2. Select if the input source is not from a digital input jack. ­ ­ ­ ­ : Available for digital input but not set in initial setting. : Not available for digital input. About three seconds after "DVD OPT1" is selected, the original display appears and the setting is completed. If you have selected digital input, you can also select the input signal format (refer to "Setting the input signal format" on page 28). 22 Playing the connected source DIRECT DIRECT CH SEL AUIO SEL DVD AUDIO SELECTOR DVD TAPE LEVEL 5/ Using multi channel input The multi channel input refers to a system, which is compatible with a source component equipped with 5. 1-channel outputs (DVD player, MPEG decoder, etc. ), reproducing the left/right front, center and left/right surround channels from five respective speakers and outputting the subwoofer channel from SUB WOOFER (refer to page 13). 1. Press AUDIO SELECTOR on the unit or AUDIO SEL on the remote controller repeatedly to select "Multich".
