Items Required to Use the 80mm Guide Scope The 80mm guide scope comes without accessories. No finder scope, eyepiece, diagonal, or tube rings are included. [. . . ] Check the camera's viewfinder again to make certain that the object you wish to photograph is still centered in the main telescope's field of view. If it is not, you will have to start the process over again. Once you open the camera shutter, you must adjust the speed of the electronic drive (using the mount's hand controller) so that the guide star remains centered in the reticle of the illuminated eyepiece. Care and Maintenance If you give your guide scope reasonable care, it will last a lifetime. Store it in a clean, dry, dust-free place, safe from rapid changes in temperature and humidity. Keep the dust cover on the front of the guide scope when it is not in use. The 80mm guide scope requires very little mechanical maintenance. The optical tube is aluminum We recommend using Orion's guide scope rings (#7381) and guide scope ring mounting plate (#7382). Orion also carries several designs of illuminated reticle eyepieces and diagonals for you to choose from. The Orion 80mm guide scope has a dovetail slot on the focuser that can be used to hold an optional finder scope if you need to use one. Focusing the Guide Scope Focusing is achieved by turning the focus knob on the guide scope, same as you would focus any telescope. The Orion guide scope will come to focus with or without the use of a diagonal. Once focus is achieved you may want to lock the focuser in place by tightening the focus lock thumbscrew on top of the focuser. IN 176 Rev A 12/02 and has a smooth painted finish that is fairly scratch-resistant. If a scratch does appear on the tube, it will not harm the guide scope. Smudges on the tube can be wiped off with a soft cloth and a household cleaner such as Formula 409. Cleaning Lenses Any quality optical lens cleaning tissue and optical lens cleaning fluid specifically designed for multi-coated optics can be used to clean the guide scope's objective lens.
