Accessing the Camera Settings
Simply press the Q button or 3 button, or touch the LCD monitor to set up and operate the camera.

This displays menus to adjust the recorded pixels, EV compensation, and other advanced shooting settings (p. 34, p. 120).
Touch the LCD monitor.
This displays the [Capture Toolbar] ([Playback Toolbar] in Playback mode) to set the flash, self-timer, and other frequently used functions (p. 34, p. 74).

Using the touch display
Use the touch display by directly touching the LCD monitor with your finger. It is recommended that you use the stylus when precise operations are required such as editing images after shooting.
Touch
This refers to touching the touch display with your finger or the stylus and then releasing it.
Touch an icon to select it, and release to set that option (a guide display appears describing the function of the selected icon before it is set). Touch an item for more than two seconds to cancel the selection. Use this to display toolbars or select icons. [. . . ] · Press the Q button to return to Playback mode.
Memo
The camera returns to Capture mode and the picture can be taken five seconds after you release your finger from either arrow icon (q or r).

Focusing
Setting the Autofocus Conditions Choosing the Focusing Area
J K Multiple Spot Measures a wide range in the center portion within the focusing area and focuses on the nearest object. Measures narrower range in the focusing area.

Limiting the Focus Range (Focus Limiter)
O On Focuses on a subject within the range of approximately 40 cm (16 in. ) to infinity. Focuses on a subject within the range of approximately 15 cm (6 in. ) to infinity when the zoom is not used (wide-angle setting). Focuses on a subject within the range of approximately 40 cm (16 in. ) to infinity when the zoom is used (telephoto setting).

When Capture mode is set to < (Flower), [Focus limiter] is set to Off, but you can change the setting.
Using the Auxiliary AF Light
O P On Off When the autofocus does not work properly because the subject is in a dark location, the subject is illuminated with the auxiliary AF light (green light) to make it easier to focus on the subject. The auxiliary AF light is not activated even when the subject is too dark.

Focusing
Caution
The auxiliary AF light of this camera conforms to the safety standard (IEC60825-1) for Class 1 LED products. Looking at the light directly will not create safety hazard. However, do not look into the emitter from a very short distance as it may make you dizzy.
Memo
The auxiliary AF light is not activated when the shooting mode is set to C (Movie), or the focus mode is set to 3 (Pan Focus), s (Infinity), or \ (Manual Focus).
Setting the Sensitivity
You can select the sensitivity to suit the brightness of the surroundings.
Auto 80 160 320 400 800 The optimal value is automatically selected from 80, 160, 320, or 400. The lower the sensitivity, the less noise that affects the image. However the shutter speed will be slower in low light conditions, so that camera shake could cause blurred images. The higher the sensitivity, the faster the shutter speed becomes even in low light conditions. However, the image may show more noise (grainy effect).

When the shooting mode is set to C (Movie), the sensitivity is fixed at Auto and cannot be changed.
Taking Pictures
Instead of pressing the shutter release button on the camera, you can use the self-timer (p. 69) or remote control function (p. 70) to take pictures. You can also take continuous pictures (p. 72) by keeping the shutter release button pressed. The captured image appears on the LCD monitor for one second (Instant Review) and is saved. The Instant Review time can be changed (p. 73).

Using the Self-timer
In Self-timer mode, the picture is taken ten seconds or two seconds after the shutter release button is pressed. Stabilize the camera with a tripod when taking a picture with the self-timer.
