[. . . ] When charging by hand,  the installed rechargeable batteries are charged irrespective of the BATTERY SELECTOR setting.  for safety and best results: 1 Check the aerial is retracted and the radio switched off. 2 Lift the POWER GENERATOR handle up and out from its groove. 3 Begin to charge by turning the handle slowly in one direction,  either way. Gradually build up speed until the OPTIMUM CHARGE indicator lights up. Wrong battery polarity Insert batteries correctly Batteries exhausted Replace batteries Volume is turned down Turn up volume Battery power low / exhausted Recharge the set using the POWER GENERATOR/ replace batteries FM aerial not fully extended Extend FM aerial fully Charging with POWER GENERATOR while radio on Switch off radio before charging Do not expose the set or batteries to rain,  moisture,  high humidity,  sand,  or excessive heat e. Use a soft damp cloth to clean the housing. Do not use any strong or corrosive cleaning agents such as thinner,  benzene,  etc.  [. . . ] The model number is located on the base of the set and the production number inside the battery compartment.
