General information about blood pressure Blood pressure is measured in mmHg (mm mercury pressure). Systolic pressure (SYS) is created by the contractions of the heart muscle which pumps the blood into the arteries. Diastolic pressure (DIA) is created when the heart relaxes and fills with blood again.
