There must be a tape in the cassette compartment. TITLE MODE RETURN 1 2 3 Press VCR, then press SEARCH MODE until the TIME SEARCH screen appears. TIME SEARCH - :- - 1 2-3 DISPLAY VCR DISC MENU DVD OK STOP PLAY SEARCH REW NA508 PAUSE SEARCH FF SPEED 1 2 5 8 0 3 SLOW Within 30 seconds, press o or p until your desired length of time appears. Or, press and hold o or p until you reach the desired length of time. You can set a Time Search for up to 9 hours and 59 minutes (9:59). Within 30 seconds, press s (for a reverse search) or B (for a forward search). The tape begins rewinding or forwarding. When it rewinds or forwards the time you specified, play will begin. The time will count down beneath TIME SEARCH during the search. If the end of the tape is reached during the search, the search will stop and the tape may rewind. Details are on page 44. 4 7 +10 6 9 ZOOM SEARCH MODE 1 Index Search An Index Mark is made automatically at the beginning of each recording. Essentially, an Index Mark is a "bookmark. " Find the start of a recording by following these steps. 1 2 3 Press VCR, then press SEARCH MODE until the INDEX SEARCH screen appears. Include the current program in your number. If a timer recording is set and is flashing in the display panel, the DVD/VCR will eject the tape if the record tab is missing. Automatic Rewind, Eject When a tape is played, fast forwarded, or recorded to its end, the tape will rewind to the beginning, stop, and eject itself. This feature does not operate if AUTO REPEAT is ON. Details are on page 40. Tape Eject A tape can be ejected with the DVD/VCR power on or off (but the DVD/VCR must be plugged in). If a timer recording is set and appears in the display panel, pressing STOP/EJECT C A will turn on the DVD/VCR and/or cancel the timer recording. The will turn off. Press STOP/EJECT C A again to remove the tape. Remember to insert a tape and press TIMER SET to reset the timer recording. Automatic Tracking Adjustment The VCR adjusts tracking automatically to give you the best possible picture quality. With some recordings, however, you may get a better picture using manual tracking. Manual Tracking To manually adjust the tracking during normal and slow motion playback of a videotape, press NEXT /CH o or PREV w/CH p on the remote. Tracking will return to Automatic Tracking when you press STOP C or insert a tape. You also can press NEXT /CH o or PREV w/CH p to remove vertical jitter in a Still picture. Your DVD/VCR also can play tapes recorded in a second audio (usually, that means your program is recorded in a second language). Of course, your DVD/VCR will play tapes recorded in monaural (single-channel) sound as well. Your DVD/VCR also will record on a video cassette in Hi-Fi stereo or in second audio, so when you play that tape on the DVD/VCR, it will be in stereo or second audio. Read the directions on this page to familiarize yourself with the stereo and second audio setups. Then follow the directions on page 46 to record in stereo or second audio, or follow the directions on page 47 to play tapes recorded in Hi-Fi stereo. Understanding Displays When you watch TV channels through the DVD/VCR, portions of the display shown below will appear when you press DISPLAY twice.
