Later, if you want to send a fax message after the conversation, proceed to step 4, otherwise replace the handset to finish. Ë If you hear a high pitched tone instead of voice, you can send your fax message now. Place your document in the feeder then ask the other party to press their Start key. When you hear a high pitched tone, press the Start key and replace the handset. 56 MAKING TELEPHONE CALLS Using the Handset Using the fax machine's built-in handset, you can use the fax machine in the same way as a normal telephone. Pick up the handset and dial on the fax machine's ten keypad (or use a Quick Dial key or a Speed Dial Code if you wish). Continue as for a normal telephone conversation. Using the Redial Key Use Redial Key if you wish to redial a number that you dialed correctly. BASIC OPERATION 1. Press the Pause/Redial key, until the REDIAL Y/j k required number appears in the display, n 08 ATLANTA OFFICE then press Yes key. The number will be dialed immediately. Answering the Telephone If the telephone rings just once: A fax is coming in. Pick up the handset and speak to the other party. If you hear a high-pitched tone, a fax is coming in. If the caller wants to send you a fax, press the Start key after speaking. If nothing happens after you press the Start key, the power may be switched off or the telephone may not be connected correctly. To Talk Before Sending a Fax (On Hook Dial) 1. NOTE: Do not use the handset and do not press the Start key. If you hear a voice from the machine's built-in speaker, pick up the handset and speak to the other party. Ë If you hear a high-pitched tone instead of a voice, place your fax message in the feeder, then press the Start key. When you are ready to send your fax message, place your message in the feeder, then ask the other party to press the Start key. When you hear a high pitched tone, press the Start key. 57 ADVANCED FEATURES TRANSMISSION Storing an Often Used Document (Type I Only) Overview If you often find that you have to often send a particular page to people (for example, a map, a standard attachment or a set of instructions), store that page in memory in an Auto Document assigned to a Quick Dial Key. Then, when you need to send that page to somebody, press the Quick Dial key that you stored it in, place any other pages that you wish to send into the feeder, dial, and press Start. At the other end, the Auto Document will be printed first. You can also program a destination for each Auto Document into the same Quick Dial Key. Before instaling, make sure that the ECM is switched on. [. . . ] NOTE: The catch must be squeezed backwards. If you apply too much pressure in the opposite direction the catch will become detached from the machine. If this happens, follow the instructions below.
