The zoomed image moves up, down, left, or right to show the desired portion of the full image. The standard method (called interlaced scanning) displays two sets of lines alternating very quickly and visually merging into a single picture. Some people can see this alternating interlacing of lines as flicker leading to viewing fatigue. Furthermore, some detail is lost because only half of the information is actually displayed at any given moment. Progressive scan video images display all of the lines in a single group, so there is less perceived flicker, increased detail, and smoother motion. Both formats interlace the lines on the disc and leave it to the DVD player or the TV monitor to display them as interlaced or progressive video images. The RD-865 can display either interlaced or progressive scanned video, depending on the setting of the Progressive Scan button. Using the RD-865's Progressive Scan mode requires a TV monitor that can display progressive scan video images. Press the AUDIO button repeatedly until the desired audio track is selected. When playing a video disc, the RD-865 can zoom in to enlarge a section of the picture to 1.
