Do not attempt to perform this conversion yourself. Opening the enclosure of the RX-404 exposes you to dangerous voltages. Consult a qualified service person or the Rotel factory service department for information. The RX-404 should be plugged directly into a 2-pin polarized wall outlet or into the switched outlet on another component in your audio system. Be sure the power switch on the front panel of the RX-404 is turned off. Then, connect the supplied power cord to the AC power receptacle on the rear of the unit and the AC power outlet. If you are going to be away from home for an extended period of time such as a month-long vacation, it is a sensible precaution to unplug your RX-404 (as well as other audio and video components) while you are away. 3 DTS® SURROUND ADAPTOR RX-404 Power Switch 1 and Power Indicator 2 The power switch is located on the front panel of your RX-404 Surround Adaptor. To turn the unit on, push the switch in. The LED indicator above the switch will light, indicating that the unit is turned on. To turn the RX-404 off, push the button again and return it to the out position. Analog Signal Connections The RX-404 has 5. 1 channel analog output connections for sending decoded DTS information (six discrete channels: left front, right front, center, left rear, right rear, and subwoofer) to the surround processor or system controller. In addition, the RX-404 features a 5. 1 channel analog pass-through input, which can be used to accept a decoded 5. 1 channel signal from another outboard decoder, such as Dolby Digital, to the surround processor, thus simplifying connections in an elaborate system. Digital Signal Connections The RX-404 features two standard digital inputs (optical or coaxial) which receive a digital data stream from a DTS-compatible LaserDisc or DVD player. In addition, a pass-through digital output connector (coaxial) can be used to send the raw digital data stream to another processor, such as a Dolby Digital® decoder. RCA Analog Outputs 11 A two-position switch located between the digital inputs selects the appropriate digital input connector, either optical or coax. If you connect your video disc player to the RX-404's optical input, place this switch in the left position (labeled OPTI).
