[. . . ] 8 Don't let the toasting slots become covered during toasting. 9 If the bread carriages become jammed during the toasting cycle don't try to release it. Switch off the power socket (if appropriate), unplug the toaster, and leave it to cool down before carefully removing the bread. Don't use a knife, fork, or other sharp implement you'll damage the elements. [. . . ] Don't put it near or below curtains or other combustible materials. Route the cable so it doesn't overhang, and can't be caught or tripped over. Plug it into a wall socket (if necessary, switch the socket on). The left four browning level lights will light up.

6 If you're using only one slot, use the front slot and front bread carriage handle.

7 If you're using both slots, you need only lower the rear bread carriage handle. It'll pull the front handle down with it. 6 Use the buttons at either end of the browning level lights to lighten % or darken > the toast. The browning level lights will come on/go out to indicate the level chosen. The more lights showing, the darker the toast. 8 Put bread centrally into the toasting slot(s) (maximum thickness 28mm). 9 Press the front (one slot), or rear (two slots) bread carriage handle down fully. , The bread carriage handle(s) won't lock down unless the toaster is connected to the electricity supply. 10 The light by the $ button will come on and the elements will heat up. 11 When it's done, the toast will pop up, the light by the $ button will go out, and the elements will turn off. 12 To stop the toaster before it's finished, press the $ button. The toast will pop up, the elements will turn off, and the light by the $ button will go out.

This feature takes the guesswork out of toasting frozen bread. 13 Set the browning level at the setting you use with normal, unfrozen bread. 14 Put the frozen bread into the slots, lower the bread carriage handle(s), to start the toaster, then press the f button. 15 The toasting time will be altered automatically to give the same degree of browning you get with unfrozen bread. 16 The light by the f button will come on, and the element will heat up. 4
17 When it's done, the toast will pop up, the light by the f button will go out, and the elements will turn off.

18 Use the lowest setting, and only reheat plain, unbuttered toast.

19 After toasting small items (crumpets, etc. ) the bread carriage handle may be raised further, to allow them to be removed more easily.
hints and tips
20 If you're toasting more than one slice of bread, make sure the slices are of similar size, thickness and freshness, otherwise they'll brown differently. 21 Old (yesterday's) bread contains less moisture than fresh bread, so makes crisper toast. 22 Old or thin bread cooks faster than fresh or thick bread, so you should use a lighter setting.
