(continued) Possible Cause The computer may have insufficient randomaccess memory (RAM). The page layout is too complex. Solution Install more random-access memory (RAM) in your computer. See "Memory and PostScript DIMMs" on page H. 2. Simplify the page layout and remove any unnecessary graphics from the document, if possible. See "Memory and PostScript DIMMs" on page H. 2. Change the page orientation in your application. Half of the page is blank. The page orientation setting may be incorrect. The paper size and the paper size settings do not match. There is too much paper in the paper tray. Make sure that the paper size in the print settings matches the paper in the paper tray. If printing special media, use the Multi-Purpose Tray. Use only paper that meets the specifications required by the printer. Media such as thick paper should not be printed using the standard facedown stacker. Use the rear face-up output tray instead. Open the top cover and remove the debris. An incorrect type of paper is being used. An incorrect output method is being used. There may be debris inside the machine. 7. 4 PROBLEM SOLVING Solving General Printing Problems Problem The printer prints, but the text is wrong, garbled, or incomplete. Possible Cause The printer cable is loose or defective. Solution Disconnect the printer cable and reconnect it. If possible, attach the cable and printer to another computer and try a print job that you know works. Check the application's printer selection menu to make sure that your printer is selected. Try printing a job from another application. If printing from Windows (any version), exit to a Dos prompt and verify functionality with the following command: At a C:\ prompt, type Dir LPT1, then press Enter. (This assumes you are connected to LPT1. ) Exit Windows and reboot the computer. Turn the printer off and then back on again. Replace the toner cartridge. The wrong printer driver was selected. The software application is malfunctioning. [. . . ] Push the card firmly into the connector until it is completely inserted in place.
