Types of Wireless LAN Connections

What is Access Point (AP)?APisanetworkdevicethatconnectswiredLANto wirelessLANandcorrespondstothewirelesshubof a wired network. Also, AP allows you to connect more thanonecomputerwherewirelessLANisenabled.
Small Office Network Thesmallofficenetworkinterconnectscomputers wherewirelessLANisenabledwirelesslyandiscalled Peer-to-Peer(orAdHOC). Thismethodenablesthe configurationofasmallofficenetworkinonecomputer. Then, another computer is connected to the computer wirelessly for communications. Connecting to Wireless LAN
IfanAPexistsnearyourlocation, youcaneasilyconnect towirelessLANinthemethodprovidedbyWindowsXP. IfyouusetheprogramprovidedbyawirelessLANcard provider, connecttowirelessLANafterseeingpage 88 of this document. ThefollowingdescriptionisbasedonWindowsXP Service Pack ; thus, the pictures may vary.

Once Connected to AP is displayed, you can use a wireless network.
Click the Wireless Network Connection icon ( )fromtheTaskbarusingtherightbuttonof the touch pad. Then, click View Available Wireless Networks.
To check the network connections
Place the mouse on the Wireless Network Connection icon ( )fromtheTaskbar. Then, thestatuswillappear.

SelectanAPtobeconnectedandclickConnect. If a network key is set in the AP, the network key inputwindowwillappear. Enterthenetworkkeyin the input window and click OK.

Connecting to computer-to-computer networks (peer-to-peer or ad hoc)
Incomputer-to-computerwirelessnetworks, youcan wirelessly connect or more computers that have wirelessLANmodules. Usingthismethod, acomputer that is not connected to the Internet can share the Internet byaccessinganothercomputerconnectedtotheInternet.
