Damage cannot always be detected from the outside; the entire unit should therefore be checked by a qualified technician before it is used again. Always place the appliance on a flat, level and heat-resistant surface during operation. Do not position the appliance on or near hot surfaces or open flames such as hot-plates or gas flames. General information about ironing Always check first whether a label with ironing instructions is attached to the article to be ironed. - The meaning of the ironing symbols is as follows: · Synthetics (low temperature) ·· Silk and wool (medium temperature) ··· Cotton and linen (high temperature) - These markings can also be found on the temperature control knob of the iron in the form of dot symbols. Laundry to be ironed should be sorted according to the fabric ironing temperature. Follow the ironing symbols and start with the lowest temperature. When ironing highly sensitive fabrics, or if you are not sure about the fabric, you may carefully test-iron on a non-visible point, e. g. Always start with the lowest temperature. If the laundry is put into a dryer before ironing, the temperature should be adjusted to `iron dry'. Start up Before it is used for the first time, the iron should be cleaned according to the instructions given in the paragraph General Care and Cleaning. This will result in the removal of possible dust particles from the sole plate and subsequently lessen the smell typically encountered when first switching on. Steam output control The steam output control is used to adjust the steam output. 6 Anti-scale system The steam generator is equipped with a special anti-scale filter which `softens' the water and therefore reduces the build-up of lime deposits in the sole plate. Changing or replacing the filter is not necessary, as this is a permanent filter. Filling with water - With the special anti-scale system, the steam generator is not liable to the buildup of lime deposits. - Before the steam function can be used, the water reservoir must be filled with water as follows: - Remove the reservoir. - Open the water filler hole and fill the reservoir with clean tap water, observing the `Max' marking on the reservoir. - Close the water filler hole and replace the water reservoir in the steam generator. - Once the water has been used up during ironing, the sound of the pump increases as air is pumped instead of water. This is Before using the steam jet function, turn the steam output control to its max position. Steam will be emitted after 40-60 seconds. Now set the control to the desired position. The main indicator light (for the pump) flashes whenever the pump is working. Ironing Steam ironing requires high temperatures.
