Q The VOLUME, X-BASS and EQUALIZER controls can be adjusted with no effect to the recorded signal (Variable Sound Monitor). Do NOT unplug the unit whilst the TOC is being recorded ("TOC" is flashing) and do NOT impart shock to the unit. Otherwise, TOC will not be correctly recorded, and consequently proper playback may not be possible. The ATRAC (Adaptive TRansform Acoustic Coding) system compresses the sound data into 1/5 by cutting out the inaudible sound. Since the sound is selected based on psychoacoustics masking, the sound quality is not impaired. This unit is equipped with the ATRAC 3 compressing system that can reduce the sound data to 1/10 or 1/20 of its original size.
