Thank you for purchasing this SHARP product. For the best performance, read this manual carefully. It will guide you in operating your SHARP product.
NOTE FOR USERS IN THE U. K.
The mains lead of this product is fitted with a non-rewireable (moulded) plug incorporating a 3A fuse. Should the fuse need to be replaced, a BSI or ASTA approved BS 1362 fuse marked or and of the same rating as above, which is also indicated on the pin face of the plug must be used. [. . . ] q Remove the batteries if they are weak or if the unit will not be used for long periods of time. This will prevent potential damage due to battery leakage. Caution: q Do not use rechargeable batteries (nickel-cadmium battery, etc. ). q When inserting or replacing the batteries for the tuner memory for the first time, connect the AC power cord and set the ON/STAND-BY switch to ON. If this operation is not performed, the life of the tuner memory batteries will be shortened. Battery replacement: For the main unit: Replace the batteries when they become weak and/or recording or playback is impaired. This may occur even though radio broadcasts are audible. For the remote control: Replace the batteries if the operating distance is reduced or if the operation becomes erratic.

Disconnect the AC power lead, and remove the battery compartment cover. Insert 2 "AA" size batteries (UM/SUM-3, R6, HP-7 or similar) for tuner memory. Notes: q Replace the batteries if the operating distance is reduced or if the operation becomes erratic. q Periodically clean the transmitter LED on the remote control and the sensor on the main unit with a soft cloth. q Exposing the sensor on the main unit to strong light may interfere with operation. Change the lighting or the direction of the unit. q Keep the remote control away from moisture, excessive heat, shock, and vibrations.
Insert 8 "D" size batteries (UM/SUM-1, R20, HP-2 or similar) into the battery compartment. q When inserting or removing the batteries { and , push them towards the battery terminals. q Installing the batteries incorrectly may cause the unit to malfunction. q Batteries are not included.

Set the function switch to CD.
Press the CD EJECT button to open the CD compartment.
Place a compact disc on the spindle, label side up. q 8 cm (3") discs may be played without an adaptor. Close the CD compartment by firmly pushing the corner marked "PUSH CLOSE".

If fingerprints or dust accumulate on the pickup, clean it gently with a dry cotton swab. q Dirty heads, capstan or pinch roller can cause poor sound and tape jams.
