Setting Compression
Description Backs up files into a proprietary compressed format that occupies a minimum amount of space on the target media drive. If you enable compression, you can select one of nine different compression levels, from low to high. Low provides the least compression; high uses maximum compression but adds to the time required to back up data. Password-protects backup files against unauthorized individuals. Specifies the maximum number of file versions that can be saved. Saves information about backup operations in the StorageSync log. Automatically reminds you to backup data based on the number of userspecified days. Default is disabled.
Use Encryption File Revision Saving to log Reminder
Incremental or Full Backup
Under Backup Options, you can select whether the backup operation is to be incremental or full. An incremental backup only backs up selected files that are new or have been changed since the last backup; this saves time when backing up files. A full backup backs up all the files you select, without checking for previous backups.
!
You can use both incremental and full backups together. For example, you can perform a full backup every month, with incremental backups each week.

Using StorageSync to Restore Data
After you use StorageSync to back up files and directories, you can use the procedure in this chapter to restore the data from the media drive to your computer's hard drive. StorageSync provides the flexibility of restoring individual and multiple files and directories. For added versatility, you can restore files and folders to their original location on your computer's hard drive or another location that you specify. If you have multiple versions of a file, you can also tell StorageSync to restore the newest version or a version that you specify. When you restore data, you can configure StorageSync to overwrite files on the media drive with like-named files on your computer's hard drive without confirmation or to restore only newer files from the media drive. StorageSync also gives you the option of saving the restore results to a log.
Data Restore Procedure
The following procedure describes how to restore data backed up with StorageSync. For detailed information about a particular step, refer to the section referenced in the step. If you intend to replace files on the computer's hard drive, be sure those files are not being accessed by another application before you start the restore operation. To your computer, attach the removable media drive that contains the data to be restored. From the Welcome window or a secondary window, click the RESTORE button. The Restore window appears (see Figure 18).
