This mode is effective when you record night views, neon signs or fireworks. When shooting an excessively bright subject Autofocus may not work effectively. The manual mode features an advanced recording technique by controlling the exposure with a combination of adjustments of the aperture value, shutter speed and gain level. When to use manual mode When the background is too bright (backlighting) [a], open the aperture (lower F value). When the subject is bright with dark background [b], close the aperture (higher F value). When the subject moves at high speed [c], set the shutter speed value faster. When a dark scene is shot overexposed [d], lower the gain. Note on recording in manual mode We recommend that you adjust the focus and white balance manually. In manual mode, you can adjust the aperture, shutter speed and gain independently. Use the graph on page 71 for your reference to set a value of each item. To adjust the aperture You can select the aperture from the following 16 values: F1. To adjust the shutter speed You can select the shutter speed from the following 20 (CCD-TR3300E), or 16 (CCDTR2200E) speeds: -- CCD-TR3300E: 1/3, 1/6, 1/12, 1/25, 1/50, 1/75, 1/100, 1/120, 1/150, 1/215, 1/300, 1/425, 1/600, 1/1000, 1/1250, 1/1750, 1/2500, 1/3500, 1/6000, 1/10000. To adjust the gain You can select the gain from the following 8 levels: ­3 dB, 0 dB, +3 dB, +6 dB, +9 dB, +12 dB, +15 dB, +l8 dB. To increase the gain to brighten the picture, select a higher level. If you adjusted the aperture manually prior to adjusting the gain, the gain level is set according to the aperture setting. The IRIS, SHUTTER SPEED, GAIN, WHT BAL buttons and the control dial do not work in these manual settings.
