[. . . ] 4 Extension cord - To help prevent electric shock, do not use a polarized AC power plug with an extension cord, receptacle, or other outlet unless the polarized plug can be completely inserted to prevent exposure of the blades of the plug. 5 When not in use - Unplug the AC power cord from the AC outlet or remove all the batteries if the unit will not be used for several months or more. When the cord is plugged in, a small amount of current continues to flow to the unit, even when the power is turned off. Using on AC house current Connect the AC cord as illustrated below. to the AC inlet of the unit supplied AC cord to an AC outlet (AC 120 V, 60 Hz) CAUTION Use only the supplied AC cord. Use with other cords may result in the risk of fire. Using on batteries Open the lid of the battery compartment on the rear and insert eight R20 (size D) batteries, not supplied, with the 0 and 9 marks correctly aligned. To switch from AC power supply to battery power supply, disconnect the AC cord from the AC inlet. Maintenance Clean the unit only as recommended in the Operating Instructions. En Damage Requiring Service Have the units serviced by a qualified service technician if: - The AC power cord or plug has been damaged - Foreign objects or liquid have got inside the unit - The unit has been exposed to rain or water - The unit does not seem to operate normally - The unit exhibits a marked change in performance - The unit has been dropped, or the cabinet has been damaged DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SERVICE THE UNIT YOURSELF. R20 (D) When to replace the batteries The tape speed slows down, volume decreases, or sound is distorted during operation. Notes on batteries · Do not mix different types of batteries or old batteries with new ones. · When the unit is not to be used for a long period, remove the batteries to prevent needless battery wear. · Never recharge the batteries, apply heat to them or take them apart. If liquid leaks from the batteries, wipe thoroughly to remove. The power is turned on and "00" will light up in the display. Select a band (AM or FM) with BAND. Adjust the volume with VOLUME. Pull up the portion marked CD OPEN on the disc compartment lid. Place a disc with the printed side up and close the disc compartment. CD OPEN For better reception FM AM Extend the rod antenna and orient it for the best reception. The antenna is inside the unit. Position the unit for the best reception. The total number of tracks is displayed. 3 4 Press e PLAY/PAUSE to start play. The number of the track being played is displayed. After listening, select TAPE/6 STANDBY with FUNCTION to turn the power off. Adjust the volume with VOLUME. NOTE If the unit picks up noise from other electrical appliances nearby, like a TV or fluorescent lights, move the unit away. s STOP ­ Stops play. r, t SKIP/SEARCH ­ Searches for a particular point during playback. Keep r or t pressed and then release it. ­ Skips to the beginning of a track. REPEAT ­ Repeats a single track or all tracks. The dot flashes in the display: A single track is played repeatedly. [. . . ] To stop recording, press s STOP on the deck. To stop CD play, press s STOP on the operation panel. To erase recording, press w REC while the power is off. [. . . ]
