Before you start performing a HotSync operation via modem Check the following: · A modem or terminal adapter is connected to your computer. · The CLIE Modem PEGA-MD700 (not supplied) must be connected to your CLIE handheld. · The Palm Desktop for CLIE software must be properly configured for use with the modem. Chapter3 Exchanging and updating data using a HotSync® operation 127 Advanced HotSync® operations Preparing your computer There are a few steps you must perform to prepare your computer for a modem HotSync operation. Be sure to perform these steps before you leave your office or home so that your computer is ready to receive a call from your CLIE handheld. 1 Check the following to prepare your computer for a modem HotSync operation: · The computer modem must be connected to your computer and both the modem and computer are turned on. · No communication applications, such as fax or telephony software, are running on the COM port. · The computer is disconnected from all online services. This helps to avoid conflicts with the COM port. 2 3 4 Click the HotSync icon in the Windows task tray (bottomright corner of the taskbar) and then select Modem from the shortcut menu. Click the HotSync icon in the Windows task tray again and then select Setup from the shortcut menu. The Setup dialog box is displayed. Click the Modem tab. If you are unsure of the port assignment, look at the Modem Properties in the Windows Control Panel. · Speed: Determines the speed at which data is transferred. Try the "As Fast As Possible" rate first, and then adjust downward if you experience problems. Everything you need to connect to your company's dial-in server (network modem) is included in the Palm Desktop for CLIE software and your CLIE handheld. You need to activate certain features, however, on both the Palm Desktop for CLIE software and your CLIE handheld. The HotSync operation records network information about your computer onto your CLIE handheld. With this information, your CLIE handheld can locate your computer when you perform a HotSync operation via the network. Preparing your CLIE handheld 1 Rotate the Jog Dial navigator to select HotSync and then press the Jog Dial navigator. Or tap the HotSync icon on the Application Launcher screen. Importable file formats Save data in one of the file formats listed below, import it into the Palm Desktop for CLIE software, and then perform a HotSync operation to transfer the data to your CLIE handheld.
