The tape position where loading ends depends on the previous unloading method, but the logical tape position after loading is always located at the beginning of the user data, regardless of the actual tape position. For example, when data writing is executed in response to an SCSI command after loading, the tape is automatically rewound to the beginning of the user data, then data are written to the tape.

Operations
Unload (DTF)
When ejecting a cassette after reading or writing is finished, an unload operation is required. During the unload operation, updated information in internal memory is written to the DIT.
Method 3
1 2
Send the MOUNT/UNMOUNT command with the MOUNT bit set to 0. Send the EJECT command.
Fast unloading/Fast loading Unloading in Auto Load mode
There are three methods: Method 1 Press the UNLOAD button. After the unload operation, the cassette is ejected. If "Unload mode" has been set to "FAST" with the SETUP menu, fast unloading is executed. Method 2 Send the LOAD/UNLOAD command with the LOAD bit set to 0. After the unload operation, the cassette is automatically ejected. Method 3 Fast unloading In a normal unload operation, a tape is rewound to the beginning, and the cassette is ejected. If the current tape position is near the end, a long period of time is required to eject the cassette. In a fast unload operation, the tape is wound to the point before the DIT or after the EOD, whichever is nearer to the current position. Then the tentative DIT information and unload information are written there. After the information is written, send the EJECT command, and the cassette will be immediately ejected. To execute fast unloading, there are three methods: Method 1: Send the MOUNT/UNMOUNT command with the FAST bit set to 1. Method 2: Set "Unload mode" to "FAST" with the SETUP menu and send the LOAD/ UNLOAD command. Method 3: Set "Unload mode" to "FAST" with the SETUP menu and press the UNLOAD button at the point where fast unloading is required. Fast loading The operation for loading is the same as that for normal loading. The unit automatically distinguishes whether the inserted cassette has been unloaded with a normal unload operation or with a fast unload operation. If the cassette was fast-unloaded, the unit reads the unload information.
Note
1 2
Send the MOUNT/UNMOUNT command with the MOUNT bit set to 0. Send the EJECT command.
The cassette is ejected.
Unloading in Manual Load mode
There are three methods: Method 1 Press the UNLOAD button. If "Unload mode" has been set to "FAST" with the SETUP menu, fast unloading is executed. [. . . ] Unused Areas: Unused areas are provided at the beginning and end of a tape for tape protection. Dummy: This is a run-up area for reading and writing data.
VSIT (Volume Set Information Table): This area manages information on all volumes on the entire tape. DIT (Directory Information Table): This area manages the information on each volume. Data Area: This area stores the user's data. [. . . ]
