Record the serial number in the space provided below. Refer to them whenever you call upon your Sony dealer regarding this product. Turn OPERATION DIAL clockwise or counterclockwise to select a user equalizer number (1~3) you want to store the equalizer setting. Press ENTER. This setting is automatically stored as the user equalizer setting you selected in step 5. The previous setting stored at this memory location is erased and replaced by the new setting. Tip If you do not want to store the equalizer setting, select "EXIT?" in step 5. 27GB Selecting the MP3 Booster effect You can improve the sound quality of MP3 audio tracks during playback. Press MP3 BOOSTER repeatedly. Selecting the sound system (MHC-GNX88/GNX80/GNX77/GNX70/ GX9900 only) Each time you press the button, the display changes cyclically as follows: BOOSTER ON t BOOSTER OFF Tips You can enjoy different sounds by selecting the sound mode you want. MHC-GNX88/GNX80 only Press SURR SPEAKER MODE on the unit or the subwoofer repeatedly to select the sound mode you want. · The default setting is "BOOSTER ON". · When "BOOSTER ON" is selected, "MP3 BOOSTER" lights up in the display. · MP3 Booster setting only can be changed when disc with MP3 audio tracks is selected during "CD" function. Each time you press the button, the indicator on the subwoofer and the display changes cyclically as follows: LINK1) t MATRIX SURR 12) t MATRIX SURR 23) Note When you turn on the system, the last selected SURROUND SPEAKER MODE indicator on the subwoofer lights up. MHC-GNX77/GNX70/GX9900 only Press SURR SPEAKER MODE repeatedly to select the sound mode you want. Each time you press the button, the display changes cyclically as follows: LINK1) t MATRIX SURR2) 1) 2) 3) LINK : Reproduces the same sound with different output levels. MATRIX SURR/MATRIX SURR 1 : Reproduces a wide range of sound that can actually sense the size of the room. MATRIX SURR 2 : Reproduces a wide range of sound that can actually sense the size of the room. The surround sound is reinforced. 28GB Using the subwoofer (MHC-GNX100/GNX88/GNX80 only) Flashing sound effect -- SOUND FLASH With the sound flash function, you can flash the sound output. The sound cuts off periodically. Hold down SOUND FLASH during playback. You can use the sound of the subwoofer to enhance the bass. 1 2 Press SUBWOOFER ON/OFF on the subwoofer repeatedly until the indicator lights up. The flashing effect is activated. The subwoofer is turned on. Turn SUBWOOFER LEVEL to adjust the level. To cancel the flashing effect Release SOUND FLASH. You will be able to listen to low bass frequency sound. To change the sound flash speed Hold down SOUND FLASH and turn OPERATION DIAL clockwise or counterclockwise to change the sound flash speed (1 ~ 20). Tips Sound Adjustment To turn off the subwoofer Press SUBWOOFER ON/OFF on the subwoofer again. Notes · If you turn MASTER VOLUME (or press VOLUME +/­ on the remote), the volume for all speakers will change. · (MHC-GNX100 only) When you select "SPEAKERS B", the subwoofer is turned off automatically. Tip · (MHC-GNX100 only) You can activate the X-ROUND and SOUND FLASH effect simultaneously. · The power illuminator will synchronize with the selected SOUND FLASH effect. You can turn MASTER VOLUME (or press VOLUME +/­ on the remote) to adjust the volume of the subwoofer linked to the front speakers. 29GB Creating a party environment (MHC-GNX100 only) Select To output sound AUTO WAVE1), MANUAL WAVE2) In circular motion You can create a party environment by using X-ROUND for "moving" sound effect or/and SOUND FLASH for flashing effect. To enjoy the X-ROUND effect, place your front and surround speakers at an equal distance from your listening position (see "Positioning the speakers for MHC-GNX100" on page 12). Tip To change between AUTO WAVE and MANUAL WAVE, AUTO FADER and MANUAL FADER or AUTO BAL and MANUAL BAL, press AUTO/ MANUAL repeatedly until the mode you want appears in the display. · If you cannot get the sound effect you want, check the speaker connections. · When the headphones are connected to the PHONES jack, X-ROUND mode automatically turned off and you cannot change the setting. 30GB Selecting the speaker system (MHC-GNX100 only) Selecting audio channel -- Multiplex Effect (MHC-GNX88/GNX77/GNX66 only) You can select the speakers you want to turn on. 1 Press SPEAKERS on the unit or subwoofer. Each time you press the button, the display and the indicators on the subwoofer changes cyclically as follows: SPEAKERS A t SPEAKERS B t SPEAKERS A+B To select Display When playing a multiplex audio CD or multiplex CDG (disc with the vocals on one channel and the instruments on the other channel), you can switch the sound to cancel the vocals and listen only to the instruments from both speakers. 1 2 Press CD. The front speakers The surround speakers Both the front and surround speakers Notes SPEAKERS A SPEAKERS B SPEAKERS A+B Each time you press the button, the display changes cyclically as follows: MPX L t MPX R t STEREO Notes Sound Adjustment · When X-ROUND mode is turned on, the speaker system automatically changes to SPEAKERS A+B. · When the headphones are connected to the PHONES jack, you cannot change the speaker system. · "SPEAKERS A" lights up in the display when SPEAKERS A is selected while "SPEAKERS B" lights up in the display when SPEAKERS B is selected. · When you turn on the system, the last selected speaker system indicator on the subwoofer lights up. · When you select "SPEAKERS B", the subwoofer is turned off automatically. · The "m" lights up in the display when "MPX L" or "MPX R" is selected. · If "MPX L" or "MPX R" is selected, the output from CD DIGITAL OUT jack will become monaural. · When a disc with MP3 audio tracks is selected, you cannot select "MPX L" or "MPX R". [. . . ] · When using discs that have glue or similar tacky substance on the label side of the disc or that used a special ink when the label was printed, there is a chance that the disc or label may become attached to parts inside this system. When this occurs, it may not be possible to remove the disc, and may also cause this system to malfunction. Be sure to check that the label side of the disc is not sticky before using. The following types of disc should not be used: ­ Rental or used discs with attached seals where the glue extends beyond the seal. [. . . ]
