If you play audio files using the software, the sound is output from the computer speakers when a disc used in Hi-MD mode is inserted, and from the earphones connected to the recorder when a disc used in MD mode is inserted in the recorder. Note Charging by USB bus power charge is not possible when the battery level indication ( ) is flashing in the display. · Reinsert the rechargeable battery and close the battery compartment lid firmly. · The temperature of the battery-charging location is too low or too high. The rechargeable battery should be charged within a temperature range of +5°C (+41°F) to +35°C (+95°F).

Connecting the recorder to your computer
When you connect the dedicated USB cable directly to the USB connecting jack on the recorder, power (bus power) is supplied from the USB port of the computer. This allows the recorder to be used without power being supplied from the battery.
Note When using Windows ME or Windows 98SE · If you connect the recorder to the computer with the disc mode on the recorder set to "HiMD" (factory setting), and then insert a 60/74/ 80-minute standard disc, the operation mode of the disc may automatically change to HiMD mode even if you do not record anything. · When you disconnect the dedicated USB cable, the message "Unsafe Removal of Device" appears in the computer display. Merely click "OK" to make the message disappear.

Insert a recordable disc into the recorder. Make sure the recorder is stopped and HOLD is released. Open the cover of the USB connecting jack on the recorder and connect the dedicated USB cable to the recorder and to the computer. · If you format a disc on the computer, make sure to format the disc using the SonicStage software. · Make sure not to delete the file management folder (HMDHIFI folder and HI-MD. IND file) on the Windows Explorer.

Viewing non-audio data stored on the disc in the display window of the recorder (File List)
When using a disc in Hi-MD mode, you can view non-audio data stored on the disc in the display window of the recorder. The name and size of files are displayed.

While the recorder is stopped, enter the menu and select "File List". The root directories appear in the order saved.

Turn the jog dial to select the file you want to confirm, and then press the jog dial to enter the selection. File size appears.

If you want to go deeper, select the folder containing the file you want to check, and then press the jog dial. A list of files and folders in the selected folder appears in the display. Afterwards, perform the operation in step 2 again.
