Removing a CompactFlash card
The Sony UMH-U HS-XX USB Device icon (or similar) is shown in the taskbar when a USB device is in use. However, it also runs Memory Sticks, CompactFlash cards and SmartMedia. It is important that you do not use this icon to disable these memory cards, as it disables all the slots. If you accidentally remove any of the cards via this icon, please restart your computer. To remove a CompactFlash card, proceed as follows: 1 2 3 4 Make sure the card is not in use and the indicator is not lit. Press the release button once so it is extended and ready for use. Push the release button again to eject the card. The CompactFlash window closes automatically.
If you remove the CompactFlash card from the computer when it is still in use, unsaved data may be lost. Always back up important data.

Using Secure Digital cards
The Secure Digital (SD) card is a small, high-capacity data storage media card. You can use the Memory Card adapter in the CompactFlash slot to insert standard-size SD cards and Multi Media cards only (Multi Media cards are the forerunners of SD cards). Please see your Specifications sheet to see if this adapter is a supplied accessory for your model.
The Memory Card adapter is exclusively for the use of SD cards and Multi Media cards. Please do not insert other memory cards.
Inserting a Secure Digital card with the Memory Card adapter
To insert the SD card, proceed as follows: 1 2 3 Insert the SD card into the Memory Card adapter, as shown. Push the card in until it clicks into place. Insert the Memory Card adapter into the CompactFlash slot with the arrow facing upwards. The card is automatically detected by your system and will appear with its own icon under My Computer.
Do not force the adapter into the slot. If you have difficulty with it, check that you are inserting the card in the correct direction. See the manual supplied with your card for more information on use. into the slot without the adapter, or insert any other type of card into the adapter or CompactFlash slot, such as a Mini SD adapter.
!Always use the Memory Card adapter wth standard-size SD cards or Multi Media cards. Do not attempt to insert the SD card

Removing a Secure Digital card

[. . . ] If the disc is badly soiled, moisten a soft cloth with water, wring it out well, and use it to wipe the surface of the disc from the centre out. Wipe off any remaining moisture with a dry soft cloth. This will affect the use of the disc irreparably.
