[. . . ] While the cordless handset is not in use: Press (PGM). Turn Jog Dial to choose "RINGER VOLUME" then press Jog Dial to adjust the volume. The ringer volume can be adjusted to three different levels: high, low and off. If the ringer is set off, "RING OFF" will appear on the display. Switch to another call ("call waiting" service*2) Receive a call by only picking up the cordless handset from the base unit, without pressing (TALK)(Quick talk) Adjust the ringer volume of the cordless handset *1 If four minutes has passed after you put a call on hold, the connection will be broken automatically. *2 You need to subscribe to this service from your telephone company. Tip To inform you of an incoming call, the display shows "** RINGING **" even when you set the ringer volume on the cordless handset to off. You can still make calls, and also receive calls if another telephone connected to the same line rings to inform you of incoming calls. If you have subscribed to the Caller ID service; · the caller's number and/or name appears on the display when you receive a call (see page 68) or when another call comes in by "call waiting" service. · the name stored in the Phone Directory appears on the display if the call matches the number stored in the Phone Directory (memory match function; see page 68). · the ringer sound changes to a higher tone if the call matches the number stored in the Phone Directory (memory match function; see page 68). 38US Basics Telephone Features Phone Directory You can dial a number by scrolling through the Phone Directory, in which up to 50 phone numbers can be stored. When the system has two or more cordless handsets, you can store a different set of phone numbers to each cordless handset. Storing phone numbers and names Example: to store "SONY" "1234567". 1 Press (PGM). Turn Press (GO BACK) PHONE DIRECTORY MEMORY MANAGE NEW OLD MASSAGE RING OFF Telephone Features If "PHONE DIRECTORY" is not selected, turn Jog Dial to select it. 2 Press Jog Dial. "ENTER NAME" appears on the display. (ERASE) ENTER NAME ABCDEFGHIJKLMN OPQRSTUVWXYZ NEW OLD MASSAGE RING OFF (REDIAL/PAUSE) 3 Enter the name by turning Jog Dial. The cursor "_" is at the right of the name. SONY_ ABCDEFGHIJKLMN OPQRSTUVWXYZ NEW OLD MASSAGE RING OFF 4 Turn Jog Dial to choose "P", then press Jog Dial or press (ERASE) to erase the characters, and enter the new name. If you want to change only the number, skip this step. The cursor is at the right of the phone number. 5 6 SONY 1234567_ NEW OLD MASSAGE RING OFF Press (ERASE) to erase the number, and enter the new number. If you don't want to change the number, skip this step. 7 Press (PGM). You hear a long confirmation beep and the name and/or the number is changed. 44US Telephone Features Erasing a memory location 1 To erase the phone number one by one Display the name you want to erase by doing steps 1 to 3 on page 42. (GO BACK) NO YES NEW OLD MASSAGE RING OFF Telephone Features 4 Turn Jog Dial to choose "YES", and then press Jog Dial. You hear a long confirmation beep and the memory location is erased. 1 2 To erase the entire memory at once Press (PGM). Turn Jog Dial to choose "MEMORY MANAGE", and then press Jog Dial. (GO BACK) PHONE DIRECTORY MEMORY MANAGE NEW OLD MASSAGE RING OFF 3 Turn Jog Dial to choose "ERASE ALL DIR", and then press Jog Dial. (GO BACK) NO ERASE DIRECTORY NEW OLD MASSAGE RING OFF 4 Turn Jog Dial to choose "ERASE DIRECTORY", and then press Jog Dial. You hear a long confirmation beep and the entire memory is erased. continued Telephone Features 45US Phone Directory (continued) Transferring the Phone Directory memory (when the system has any other additional cordless handsets) The Phone Directory memory can be transferred one by one or all at once (with a maximum of 50 numbers) from a cordless handset to an additional cordless handset. This function works only when one or more additional cordless handsets are available on the system. Make sure the base unit and the other cordless handsets to receive the memory are not in use before you start the setting. To transfer one phone number from the Phone Directory Example: From HANDSET 1 to HANDSET 2. 1 Display the name you want to transfer by doing steps 1 to 3 on page 42. " "BLOCKED NUMBER/ NAME/CALL" will appear on the display. · You have answered the call while "** RINGING **" was displayed.
