If the procedure does not work, press and hold the power button for four seconds or longer to shut down the computer. nN 76 Using your VAIO computer Managing power with VAIO Power Management Power management helps you to set up power schemes of your computer that is running on AC power or batteries to suit your requirements for power consumption. VAIO Power Management is a software application developed exclusively for VAIO computers. With this software application, you can enhance the Windows power management functions to ensure better operations of your computer and for longer battery life. Activating VAIO Power Management When you start the computer, a power status icon appears on the taskbar. This icon indicates what kind of power source you are using at that time, e. g. , AC power. If you double-click this icon, the Power Meter screen appears showing you the power status. VAIO Power Management functionalities are added to the Windows Power Options Properties. To activate VAIO Power Management, proceed as follows: 1 2 3 Right-click the power status icon on the taskbar. The Power Options Properties window appears. Select the VAIO Power Management tab. nN 77 Using your VAIO computer Activating VAIO Power Management power schemes VAIO Power Management provides several predefined power schemes. Each power scheme consists of a group of power management settings that are designed to meet specific power management goals, ranging from maximum power management to no power management. To activate a VAIO Power Management power scheme, proceed as follows: 1 2 3 4 5 6 Open Adjust Power Properties. Select a power scheme from the Power schemes drop-down list. If you now select the VAIO Power Management tab, you see that the selected power scheme appears to the right of Power Scheme. If necessary, you can change the items in the list, e. g. , the brightness of the LCD. The power scheme has been activated. You must have computer administrator rights on your computer to set up a power scheme. For more information on VAIO Power Management and Power Schemes, see the software's online help files. Power Scheme Power Management Off VAIO Optimized VAIO Maximum Battery VAIO Ultimate Battery Description Turns off all power management features such as Standby and Hibernate modes. The default power management state for either power source. Provides power saving features to give you maximum battery life and good performance when battery power is in use. It reduces the brightness of the display and puts the system into Standby mode after a specified time period. Provides longer battery life than VAIO Maximum Battery. nN 78 Using your VAIO computer If you have a computer with a mobile CPU (see the printed Specifications sheet), a CPU control icon may appear on the taskbar.
