To avoid invalidation of the warranty during your product warranty period, we recommend that: You should contact your dealer to install a new memory module. You should not install it yourself, if you are not familiar with upgrading memory on a computer. You should not touch the connectors or open the memory module compartment cover. To find the nearest center or agent, see Sony Support Information (page 181). n 113 N Upgrading Your VAIO Computer Adding and Removing Memory If you want to expand the functionality of your computer, you can increase the memory by installing optional memory modules. Before you upgrade your computer's memory, read the notes and procedures in the following pages. n 114 N Upgrading Your VAIO Computer Notes on adding/removing memory modules Be careful when changing memory. Improper installation of memory modules may cause damage to your system. This damage may void your manufacturer's warranty. To insert a new memory module into the lower open slot for increasing the amount of memory, remove the memory module from the upper slot first, and then insert the new memory module into the lower slot and reinsert the removed memory module. Remove the new memory module from its packaging. n 119 N Upgrading Your VAIO Computer 8 Slide the memory module into the memory module slot and push it in until it clicks into place. !Do not touch any other components on the motherboard. If you want to install only one memory module, be sure to use the upper slot. Be sure to insert the connector edge of the memory module into the slot while aligning the notch on the module with the small projection in the open slot. n 120 N Upgrading Your VAIO Computer 9 Replace the memory module compartment cover. 10 Tighten the screws on the bottom of the computer. !Do not install the screw (1) in step 4 into other screw holes, as doing so may cause damage to your computer because the length of the screw (1) is longer than that of other screws (2). 11 Reinstall the battery pack and turn on the computer. n 121 N Upgrading Your VAIO Computer Viewing the Amount of Memory To view the amount of memory 1 2 3 Turn on the computer. Click Start, All Programs, and VAIO Control Center. Double-click the System Information icon under the System Information folder. You can view the amount of system memory.
