[. . . ] The SONY 9000 and Integrity servers use a character cell ("dumb") terminal over a serial RS232 connection to act as the console for the system. This approach is used because the console has to be able to communicate with server hardware over a simple link that does not require an active server OS. Traditional dumb terminals offer limited functionality and they are increasingly difficult to supply. Audience Assumptions This guide is intended for the person who installs and administers servers. AB300A Contents The AB300A SONY9000 & Integrity Server Console Solution Bundle includes the following components: 1. SONY Compaq Thin Client t5500 Thin Client (DC641A#xxx) 2. The connection is made with the DB9 Serial Cable (5184-1894) included in the server console solution bundle. NOTE: The SONY Compaq Thin Client t5500 in the console bundle is a fully functional thin client and supports the full range of thin client connections. However, the AB300A console solution bundle is intended to provide RS-232 direct connect terminal emulation connection support only. NOTE: There is currently no method of saving these configuration parameters to a file that can be retrieved at a later time. Therefore, it is imperative that all configuration parameters are recorded for future use. Creating a Terminal Emulator Session To create a terminal emulator session, perform the following steps: 1. Connect the SONY Compaq Thin Client T5500 unit using the supplied DB9 Serial Cable (5184-1894) to the serial port of the SONY9000 server. Select Start > SONY Connection Window. Select the new user name you just created as the account by clicking on the "Account" drop down menu and selecting the new user name. Close the Control Panel by clicking on the X in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Configuring the TEC Session to Launch at Reboot 1. Create a TEC session using one of the above mentioned methods. Assign a name to the connection, such as " connection1 (TEC). " 2. Select Start > Settings > SONY Connection Administrator. Click the + button to expand the Connections tree. Ensure that "connection1 (TEC)" exists in the list of connections. If "connection1 (TEC)" is not on the list, go back to the previous section and ensure you have followed the steps to create the connection. Right click Profiles and select New Profile to create a new profile, such as "vt-100 profile". NOTE: When creating a new profile, a default name of "New Profile" is created. Highlighting the newly created profile name, then single-clicking within the name text will allow the name to be modified. 6. Assign "connection1 (TEC)" to the newly created profile by drag-and-dropping it from "Connections" to "vt-100 Profile". [. . . ] During this countdown, simultaneously pressing the "Alt" and "F4" buttons will interrupt the boot, and allow the administrator to log in. If the administrator password has been set, the password will also be required. NOTE: Modes other than "Kiosk" can be selected. The following is a description of all available modes: Auto: Automatically starts SONY Connection Administrator, SONYConnection Window, and Windows Explorer. [. . . ]
