The supplied battery is not charged when you receive your computer. To use your computer immediately, use the supplied AC adapter as the power source. While the computer uses AC power it automatically charges the battery if it is inserted. See Using the Battery for more information on installing and using your battery.

Disconnecting a floppy disk drive
You can disconnect a USB floppy disk drive when the computer is on. Disconnecting the drive when the computer is in a power saving mode (Standby or Hibernate) may cause the computer to malfunction.

Why doesn't the Safely Remove Hardware icon
appear on the taskbar when the drive is connected?
The computer does not recognize the floppy disk drive. If you are not using your PC Card and you are using a battery as a power source, remove the PC Card from the PC Card slot to conserve battery power.
