Verifying Compatibility
All SONY iPAQ Global Positioning System (GPS) enabled devices come with SONY iPAQ compatible GPS navigation software solutions. Depending on the region of the world where you purchase your device, solutions are either pre-installed on the device, downloaded from the Internet, or installed using CDs. If you are interested in purchasing additional GPS navigation software to use on your SONY iPAQ, check with the GPS software supplier (before you purchase, download, or install any GPS navigation software) to determine that the application is compatible with your specific SONY iPAQ model. Once you have verified compatibility, purchase and install a map onto the SONY iPAQ or memory card to be able to start using the GPS navigation technology. NOTE It is recommended that you download all GPS maps to a memory card that is compatible with your specific SONY iPAQ model, or to an iPAQ File Store folder (if your model provides one). This prevents you from losing your map data due to a possible power loss or a need to perform a clean reset on the SONY iPAQ. Since your SONY iPAQ model uses Windows Mobile 5. 0, you can store maps in main memory that is not erased if the battery loses power. Memory cards can be purchased at www. hp. com/accessories/ipaq.

Losing The GPS Signal While in My Car
GPS performance on the SONY iPAQ may be affected if the vehicle has thermal glass windows and windshields, which can block the SONY iPAQ from receiving a GPS signal from satellites. To improve GPS signal strength, place the SONY iPAQ where there is a clear view of the sky or on the dashboard of a vehicle that does not have thermal glass windshields. A direct line of sight is required between the SONY iPAQ and the GPS satellites to access information from the satellites.

Losing the GPS Signal Frequently
To improve the satellite signal to the GPS enabled SONY iPAQ, go outdoors to start the GPS navigation software. Place the SONY iPAQ where there is a clear view of the sky or on the dashboard of a vehicle that does not have thermal glass windshields or windows. NOTE Interference might take place close to tall buildings or large trees, and under very cloudy or overcast skies, all of which can block the satellite signal from reaching the SONY iPAQ. Try to avoid these obstructions before using GPS.
