If you have followed all of the procedures below and still need assistance, refer to the ‘Technical Support Procedures’ and/or ‘Returning Merchandise for Service’ section(s) in this chapter. Note: Always disconnect the power cord before adding, changing or installing any hardware components. Before Power On 1. Make sure that there are no short circuits between the motherboard and chassis. 2. Disconnect all ribbon/wire cables from the motherboard, including those for the keyboard and mouse. 4. Install CPU 1 first (-making sure it is fully seated) and connect the front panel connectors to the motherboard. No Power 1. Make sure that there are no short circuits between the motherboard and the chassis. 2. Make sure that the ATX power connectors are properly connected 3. Check that the 115V/230V switch on the power supply is properly set, if available. 4. Turn the power switch on and off to test the system, if applicable. 5. The battery on your motherboard may be old. Check to verify that it still supplies ~3VDC. When the system becomes unstable during or after OS installation, check the following: 1. CPU/BIOS support: Make sure that your CPU is supported, and you have the latest BIOS installed in your system. 2. Memory support: Make sure that the memory modules are supported by testing the modules using memtest86 or a similar utility. Note: Refer to the product page on our website at http://www. supermicro. com for memory and CPU support and updates. 3. HDD support: Make sure that all hard disk drives (HDDs) work properly. 4. System cooling: Check system cooling to make sure that all heatsink fans and system fans work properly. Also check the front panel Overheat LED, and make sure that the Overheat LED is not on. 5. Adequate power supply: Make sure that the power supply provides adequate power to the system. Non-fatal errors are those which, in most cases, allow the system to continue to boot. The error messages normally appear on the screen.
